When making the many decisions associated with renovating a bathroom, my recent client decided they wanted the walls and ceiling to add to the look with a “moody” feel. To accomplish this, they decided to go with a limewash finish- which adds depth, motion and character to the walls… which is when I got the call!
This project uses a limewash from Portola Paints in one of their custom colors called “Traveler”. Limewash behaves very differently from “normal” paint, and must be applied in a way that accomplishes the natural “bloom” that happens (this is what creates the motion and character) while avoiding unwanted halos and overlap lines. It is a tricky product (!), but it ultimately produces a look you can’t get with anything else – and in this case, it is exactly what the client was looking for!
