I thoroughly enjoy doing kids room murals! My clients for this nursery in Newton, MA wanted a sky theme for their new-born son’s room and reached out to me to make it happen. I enjoyed collaborating with the baby’s mother and grandmother – and their interior designer- to come up with this design!
The designer suggested painting the entire room in an ombre of blues – making the ceiling look like the night sky, and the lower walls look like a bright daytime sky. To accentuate this, they asked that I paint the sky with glitter to look like stars. In terms of the mural, they wanted to limit it to 2 walls so it didn’t look too cluttered. They requested a specific airplane, a rocket, a hot-air ballon and birds (at least one bird needed to be a cardinal).
With this information in hand – I was on to designing and painting my concept boards! As always, I painted my designs to scale using the actual colors I would use on the walls – so they could see a smaller version of exactly what the mural would look like. With only a couple of minor changes, they loved my design as it was – so I was on to painting the final mural!
